When to Book Fall Family & Holiday Photos in Southeast Texas (Hint: Not July)
If you've ever found yourself in mid-December typing "holiday photos near Conroe" into your phone and hoping somebody, anybody, still has an opening, this post is for you.

Think of it as your early warning. Here's our honest, month-by-month breakdown of Southeast Texas light and heat, when fall family photos actually look like fall, and how far ahead to book if you want those photos in hand before the relatives start asking.
Why timing matters more here
In a lot of the country, "fall photos" means crunchy leaves and sweaters in October. In Conroe, October can still mean 90 degrees and a toddler who is very upset about sticky jeans. We love it here, but Texas runs on its own calendar, and planning around it makes a real difference in how your photos turn out (and how much everyone sweats in them).
Our month-by-month guide to Southeast Texas light
January and February. Seriously underrated. It's mild, and soft overcast days give everyone even, flattering light. Trees are mostly bare, so the look is more cozy than colorful.
March and April. Spring green everywhere, and bluebonnet season usually peaks somewhere between late March and April. Gorgeous, but pollen is no joke. If your crew has allergies, plan accordingly.
May. Still workable, especially in the evening, but heat and humidity start creeping in. Earlier in the month is better.
June through September. We say this with love: this is not the season for your holiday photos. It's hot, humid, buggy, and the light gets harsh fast. If you absolutely need summer photos, think sunrise or the very last bit of evening. Nobody's holiday sweater should be photographed in July.
October. Things start cooling off, usually. Early October can still feel like summer, so later in the month tends to be more comfortable. The light gets warmer and softer, and this is when holiday photo season really kicks off.
November. The sweet spot. Temperatures are friendlier, evening light is beautiful, and daylight saving time ends on November 1 this year, so sunset moves earlier. That means evening sessions start earlier too, which is great news for little ones with early bedtimes.
Late November into early December. This is when Southeast Texas finally remembers it's fall. Real color usually shows up in the trees from late November into early December. It's a short window, so it fills up fast. If you want reds and golds behind your family, this is your moment.
Mid to late December. Still pretty, but if you want your photos before the holidays, you're running out of road, since galleries take about two weeks. Photos taken now usually turn into New Year's photos, or next year's "we'll book early" plan. (Which we fully support.)
So when should you book?
Short version: earlier than you think.
Weekend evenings in November and early December tend to be the first dates to go for family photographers around here. If you have a specific weekend in mind, reach out as early as you can, ideally a month or more ahead.
Then work backward from when you need your photos. Here's everything that has to happen after your session:
Gallery delivery: about two weeks on average
Picking your favorites (this always takes longer than anyone admits)
Sharing them with the people you love
Our turnaround: Your gallery is usually ready in about two weeks, so book at least a few weeks before you want your photos in hand for the holidays.
What a family session with us looks like
Our Lifestyle sessions are $175 for 30 minutes, and you'll get 50+ photos. If we're traveling to you, a travel fee may apply. We photograph families all over Cypress, Spring, The Woodlands, Conroe, Willis, New Waverly, Huntsville, and the rest of Montgomery County. So if you've been searching for a Conroe family photographer or fall family photos in The Woodlands, hi, that's us.
Thirty minutes might sound quick, but it's a sweet spot for kids, who usually hit their limit well before the grown-ups do.
A few things we will never make you do:
Match. You do not need everyone in white shirts and jeans. Please don't. Wear colors you love that look good together, and save the matching outfits for the family reunion T-shirts.
Say cheese. No cheese. No fluff. We want the real laughs and the real chaos, not stiff poses.
Stress about the toddler. Toddlers run, hide, cry, and try to eat leaves. That's fine. One of our clients, Nicole, wrote a whole review about how we handle toddlers, and we will take that compliment forever.
Quick tips for a fall session in Texas
Aim for evening light. The hour or so before sunset is soft, warm, and flattering on everyone.
Dress in layers. A November evening can start warm and end chilly.
Pack water and snacks. For the kids. And, let's be honest, for everyone.
Bring bug spray. Put it on before you get dressed. Trust us on this one.
Pick outfits with texture. Knits, denim, flannel, and soft fabrics photograph beautifully.
